When life gives you lemons, some might recommend lemonade. This year, to celebrate my birthday, we tested an alternative:
 |
| Miracle frooties, recommended for your next flavor tripping party. :) |
Miracle frooties are a brand of miraculin extract tablets, containing the
miraculin protein extracted from a West African berry which knocks out your sour taste buds for anywhere from a fifteen minutes to two hours. This leads to a birthday party table spread looking something like this.
 |
| Partying it up with lemons, limes, and the likes. |
We flavor tripped on lemons, limes, grapefruit, strawberries, kiwi, balsamic vinegar, pickles, Guinness, and cheap tequila. The lemons and limes were deliciously sweet and the strawberries tasted like the ripest berries you'd ever eaten. On the other hand, the flavor of Guinness devolved into a sort of watered-down chocolate soda. The balsamic vinegar was smooth and sweet, delicious with some fresh baguettes (though what isn't??). Overall, "tripping" was a pretty accurate word for the experience. And seeing as we're in Paris, we topped everything off with a strawberries and cream birthday cake from the local pastry shop, miraculous enough
sans miraculin.
 |
| Yes, that is a flaming birthday cake right next to the liquors... Luckily, no harm done. |
I even got enough miracle berry extract for Round 2 with my lab this afternoon.

So next time life gives you lemons, why not try picking up some miracle berry extract? It'll certainly make for a memorable experience than sipping on a glass of lemonade.
