Somewhat unexpectedly, this year's MIT Fourth of July event co-organized with Tufts alumni turned into the most proper celebration of American Independence Day that I've managed since I began living abroad. From the picnic style dining in open air to the smells of barbecue to the friendly crowds, even down to the sparklers with which my friend Sean surprised us after the sun finally went down, I found myself feeling more at home than I normally can on this holiday. What a delightful surprise!
