After only a little more than a year and a half of dating, Peter and I went off on our first two-night get-away, our longest trip yet! (Work hasn't been too kind to either of us these past couple of years.) Before meeting up with his family in Nice for a weekend, Peter and I spent Thursday and Friday in a small, hillside town in the Côte d'Azur, quite aptly named, as we were reminded each time we looked out our window. The place where we stayed, a renovated private basement apartment, could not have been lovelier, one of those perfect gems out there on Airbnb.

But the loveliness didn't stop at our front door. The entire town was straight out of a movie, with the narrow, winding, labyrinthine streets, the old stone buildings, the perfectly blue skies overhead, the mountains off to one side, and the sea on the other. (And out of a movie it was! Hitchcock filmed part of his 1955 romantic thriller To Catch a Thief right here.)

I feel guilty writing plainly, "everything was perfect" though this fits the bill. Even the few hours of rain on Friday, which we used to combat our sleep deprivation, only made the nature smell even fresher and more alive for our hike later that evening. And what a view.

The only problem-- and I cringe to think how corny I sound-- was the brevity of our stay. But we had places to go and family to see and a certain someone's birthday to celebrate. :)
To wrap things up, a Bulgarian lesson for the day:
Честит рожден ден = Chestit rojden den, meaning Happy birthday. Today, Peter turned 3³ (three cubed, or 27 for all you non-nerds). Happy birthday, Peter!!
