How to watch the World Cup while writing your thesis:
1. Show up late (you were busy writing!) and desperately hope that no team has scored before you were able to find a bar near lab that's actually open on Sunday nights.
2. Request your own table (need room for all those articles!) and then only order one beer (got to stay sober while writing a thesis-- don't need to get too creative just now. You haven't yet reached the Discussion section!)
3. Since inevitably all the good seats near the main screen will be taken, just slide your table next to the bar to enjoy the view from the bartender's television screen.
4. Smile at all the confused customers who are inconvenienced when walking around your awkwardly placed table and who don't understand how you can be at once watching and furiously taking notes on such an esoteric chemistry topic on a Sunday evening.
5. Be sure to pick a team. All the inconvenienced and bemused customers trying to pay their bills will attempt friendly small talk by asking you who you're rooting for. (Personally, I like underdogs. And tango. Too bad that didn't work out for me this time.)
