That's SO French

The French, despite themselves, are enamored by all things anglophone, from the New York City skyline to British double-decker buses. In that trend, they are also very enthusiastic about short phrases written in English. I mentioned this fad recently when describing the couples' pamphlets given out at a French wedding I attended. The pamplets were entitled "Just Married" though all of the text was in French. One of the favorite English words of the French is apparently the word "so." They sprinkle it enthusiastically in anything that appears English or American, as well as anything else they'd like to make cool. They don't quite understand how the word "so" works, but that does not stop them from using it freely. To their credit, sometimes they get it right but... this photo captures some examples of what is often the result.
The French just love the word "so." This window display (included some Union Jacks not shown) is So London. And my French debit card, which comes with a free music download deal: So Music.
