My convertible apartment

Valentin and I decided that a little more space would be nice, so we've taken a second apartment a few floors up so we still have the advantages of living right nearby without walking on top of each other at home. I've been very busy moving in over the past month, but just in time for my family's visit the place is pretty much set up. Sweat, blood, and tears went into the furnishing of this apartment, which included completely deconstructing and reconstructing (including redoing the electricity in) the bed/armoire, special ordering a few items from overseas, renting a truck for a day, calling up our friend Roland the furniture delivery guy when we couldn't possibly manage with public transport, and generally trekking all over Paris and the suburbs to find all the best used deals. Given my PhD student budget, all the furniture was bought second-hand: thank you leboncoin.fr and ebay Petites Annonces!

I've been saving these photos to keep the new place a surprise when my family arrives, but as they by now should be in the air on their way to Paris, I am excited to share my past month's work! While I generally despise studios, I adore how convertible this place is: it can be any type of room I want it to be!

My lounge...

...is secretly hiding a kitchen, bedroom closet, and full-size bed!

My living room...

...can quickly transform into a dining room/study area.

A major advantage of having my own place is that the (large) bathroom can be as girly as I like.

My entry hall serves as a music room and library...

...and opens into my front hall closet, complete with full-length mirror.

Lastly, you really can't complain about this view.
